(w/ his dj the legendary Ma-rley Marl...ma ma ma Marl-ey Marl--is one --is one-- is onehelluvaman--) my favorite tape was Run DMC live at the apollo in 86 and every 25 mins Magic apologizing to his listeners for @revrun's cussing. first time EVER i heard Eric B is president was driving home from new york with my family. and his famous "A WOOOOOOOORLD PREMIERE" tag (think of Flex dropping bombs) before the break from "Long Red" came on that intro'd that masterpiece. SOME of you should know of Mr Magic's crew the LEGENDARY Juice Crew (Dr Roxanne Shante---dont care what chall think i like saying it--- Craig G, Masta Ace, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Biz Markie, and Mc Shan. (now is the time to follow @MC_Craig_G and @mastaace yall)---they truly uttered and established what we now know as the "classic period" of hip hop. Some of you even might know the legendary beefs he's had with other crew that really produced classic after classic material (today cats have beef and they will catch a murder charge: hip hop can learn from the Juice Crew vs Boogie Down Productions 86-90 battles. no bloodshed. all lyrics. Mr Magic's radio show was a blessing for new york hip hop. can't tell you the gazzzzzillions of times cats in hip hop would tell me a story of sitting in their car on a saturday night and the joy and frenzy it was to hear your joint on the radio (minus chuck and flav who actually turned a diss to PE into a hilllllarious sample bit on their Nation Of Millions classic ("i guarantee you...no more music by the suckers...no more music by the suckers...no more music by the suckers")--during his hey day he was loved, hated, debated (as all hip hop pioneers are) and now today oct 2 2009 MR MAGIC IS CELEBRATED.---i do kinda hope that pete rock will stick to his word and digitize ALL of his magic shows now. i need that in my life son.
