While I multitask on music preparation, music production, audio, video and media stuff, I try to take in quality medias to make the time pass by a bit easier. Today, I popped in the 1979 film The Muppet Movie. Truth is, I am certain I havent seen this movie since it came to the theater when I was but a wee lad; but I wasnt prepared for the depth, the breadth and overall dopeness of the memory jarring moments, melodies and overall freshness that ensued. Themes that recurred through the movie were light years ahead. Peep scooter selling organic popcorn in opening sequence. Then scooter reemerges with his band in the church; where the plan was to independently transform the church into a coffeehouse where his band can rock out!? What kind of sweet, gentle hallucinogenics was Henson on to come up with this stuff? In a word; Brilliant; Timeless; and all of that. This flick had to be one of the biggest events of the era; as evidenced by the number of cameo's.
And oh, did I mention the FUNK? The music in this flick was antivapid and diverse. Some of the score had songs that sound like straight up break beats, so dont be surprised if a new bumper crop of tracks surface. The music was better than radio right now, for real. Paul Williams is an American icon. Him and Randy Newman should have cities named after them.
If you have access to this movie, do yourself a favor; watch it.
BTW, Sweetums is still my dude.
