But,
There is no surprise, nor is it compelling to stress the point that the tail is wagging the dog in the music game. After trolling through the less popular categories, I did see recognition of some cool accomplishments, Danger Mouse slams through with another Producer of the year nomination, Cee Lo Green making an impact with 'that' song, The Black Keys get 5 nods total, and The Roots' were nominated for 6, one for How I Got Over and the others for the collabo with John Legend (Wake Up!). Jazmine Sullivan and Ryan Leslie pick up a nods quietly; which is good for the game.
Notably missing was Trey Songz, who walked away with nada nunca noms. Weezy missed the window of eligibility so alas nothing there. Too, no Ricky Ross, or Gucci Mane. Waka's album dropped after the cutoff, so you'll have to wait till 2012 and thank God for that.In the 100 categories or so; there are probably less than a thousand names credited. In contrast consider the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of acts listed on Itunes and Amazon. (chooses the high road instead of several low brow unneccessary jokes here) No real wrap up point there; just an observation that should sort of speak for itself.
Eminem - 10

John Mayer - 4
Ceelo Green - 4
