Indies making music that matters.

NPR introduced me to the Black Keys, Gertrude Morgan by way of King Britt, Grizzly Bear and now Royal Thunder.

I am generally a soul music consumer. Hey, everyone has their thing. Mine started with War back in 74. in any event; anyone who has researched music will know that soul and rock are like 2nd cousins; maybe first, with the blues being their maternal kinfolk.

And so when I listen to rock music; I tend to dig the stuff thats in the family so to speak. A large, diverse, disconnected and sometimes ignant, dysfunctional family. I follow rock loosely but unfortunately it is through the coloration of popular music (radio) and I acknowledge that this may not be the best way to get at actual gems. Enter NPR.

Listening to this Royal Thunder record is a welcome fall back and straight mental vamp that builds like a crock pot cooking rock gumbo inside. With weed in it. And Amber Rose is stirring the pot slowly while wearing a welder's helmet and frock and nothing else. And when you eat the gumbo; you run 10 miles in british knight shoes (not the wack ass sneakers) and acid wash denims.

Bad metaphor i know, but the shit is bananas; check the link for the tunage. Shout out to NPR for the heads up.
